Welcome to Gateway's Weekly Service. We are so glad that you are here. We pray that this message inspires you, it encourages you, and that God speaks to you in new ways. Now, on with the message.
SPEAKER_01There's no one like you. You are the great Savior and the resurrection and the life. And Jesus, we worship you. We magnify you. Come on, just a moment more. Give honor to Him, give praise to Him. Jesus, be glorified, be lifted high. Above all, over all, before all. Jesus, come do the things that only you can do. And Holy Spirit, be the teacher today. Say more than I've prepared. Go further than I see. Take us by the hand and lead us deeper. Lord, we ask you this in Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Also, everyone, please go ahead and take your seats for a few moments. You doing okay? Still glad you came? You know, as believers, the things of God should always be precious to us, should always be real to us. But there's no doubt that on Sundays like Easter Sunday, somehow it just seems more real. Or sometimes when we're faced with death, the reality of life in Christ Jesus and heaven just feels more real. And oh my goodness, am I grateful that this world isn't all there is, and this world isn't all that we know. And in fact, on that line, there is a physical realm, but there's also a spiritual realm. We understand that, don't we? In fact, the Bible says that the things that were created and not made by things that are seen, but by things that are not seen. Before anything was, there was God, and there was God's word. And so we've been looking at the last few weeks. I started this series four weeks ago, and then two weeks ago was Servolution Sunday, and I love that weekend. And then last Sunday, my honey bun carried on preaching this series, and then I'm preaching this weekend. In fact, we got several different voices talking through this series because I don't want it just to be you think, well, that's you know something for John or whatever, the pastor, but but but quote unquote ordinary people, well, you know, it's different. My friend, it's not. The word of God is applicable and powerful for everyone. In fact, the Bible says when we look into the word, we're looking into the perfect law of liberty. I think our legal system in this nation's pretty good, but I can guarantee it's not perfect, and I can guarantee injustices happen and it's not necessarily fair for all. God's word isn't like that. God's word is perfect and it's a perfect law. So we've been we've been calling this series transformed, and we're talking about the renewing of the mind, or you could put it this way, thinking like heaven. And today I want to talk about building a renewed mindset because the last couple of weeks we've been kind of uncovering the battlefield, as Joyce Weyer would call it, of the mind. And we've talked about how thoughts shape our life. We've exposed strongholds, lies, and limiting beliefs that quietly influence the direction of your future. But today I want to move to the next stage because God doesn't just want to remove wrong thinking or stinking thinking, He wants to establish right thinking. So it's not just about tearing things down, it's about building something new. Because many believers spend their lives trying not to think negatively, but never intentionally learning how to think like heaven thinks. And so the goal of renewal is not simply that we stop thinking wrong. The goal is that we begin to think like someone who has truly been transformed by Christ. So everyone turn with me, please, to Romans chapter 12. It'll be on the screen, but it won't hurt you to look at it. Romans chapter 12 and verse 1 and 2 says this I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service, and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed. By a ministry line or a fire tunnel. Those things are all good and great, we do them, but it says you're transformed by the renewing of your mind. That transformation, as likened from a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, happens when we renew our minds, when we change the way we think. Now, renewing of the mind isn't just a positive thinking or a positive mental attitude, that would be the world's way of looking at it, and actually that's that will change your life to a degree. It's it's helpful to a level, but actually, I don't just want to think like positive people, I want to think like God thinks. The Bible says I have the mind of Christ, and the Bible says his thoughts are not my thoughts. So I can guarantee you, even if Mr. or Miss Positivity were to walk in the room today with their best motivational memes, they don't compare to the way God thinks. His ways are higher. The Bible says, because his thoughts are higher, but we have the mind of Christ. Philippians 2, verse 5 says, Let this mind be in you, which also is in Christ Jesus. In context, is talking about humility, but I want to think in every way like Jesus thinks. And so our lives are transformed by the renewing of our minds that we may prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. The wonderful thing about experiencing the will of God is it doesn't only bless you, it blesses through you. And I want to be blessed to be a blessing. So something we got to understand is this a renewed mind doesn't happen accidentally, it is built intentionally. And in the same way that strongholds are formed through repetition and reinforcement, renewed thinking is also developed through repetition and reinforcement. So you so here's the truth true and deep and lasting transformation happens when when truth becomes your default way of thinking. Now, Anza talked about this last week. The mind, the world has this thing. Well, that's my truth, and that's your truth. And that's okay to a degree, but there's his truth. Can someone switch that fan off? Because my truth is I'm getting chilly. Your truth is probably you're getting quite hot. Ephesians chapter 4, verse 23 and 24 says this, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Everyone say the spirit of your mind. The spirit of your mind is the way you naturally think, it's like your default setting. It says, Be renewed in the spirit of your man and the in your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God in true righteousness and true holiness. God created something, He created a new man. If anyone is in Christ, they're a new what? Creation or creature. But we put that on, we act like that when we're renewed in the spirit of our minds. This is more than positive thinking. This is thinking in line with what God has done. This isn't saying, God, you said this, but again, Angela talked about this last week. It's me saying, God's word said it, I believe it, and that settles it. So I've got three simple points today. I think it's three, might be four. If it's four, just roll with it. Number one, the renewed mind thinks from identity, not insecurity. This is a biggie. The renewed mind thinks from identity, not insecurity. One of the clearest signs of an unrenewed mind is insecurity, or we might call it unbelief. Because insecurity always flows from misplaced identity. When you don't know who you truly are in Christ, you begin searching for significance in other places. We start looking for approval, we start looking for achievement to be why we've where we find our confidence. We start looking for recognition or in relationships, or we think that success will bring security. But the renewed mind no longer thinks from lack. If I have that, then I'll be enough. It thinks from identity. Why wouldn't this giant fall? I have a covenant, David said. Why wouldn't my needs be met when Jehovah Jirah is my father? Do you get what I'm saying? When you understand your identity, a security comes. Gideon is an example of this. God calls Gideon a mighty man of valor, but Gideon immediately responds from insecurity. My clan is the weakest, he said, and I am the least. And so there are verses that can cause us to be renewed in the spirit of Almight. Verses like this: Judges chapter 6, verse 12. The Lord is with you, mighty man of valor. 2 Corinthians chapter 5, verse 17. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Or Ephesians chapter 1, verse 6. He has made us accepted in the beloved. See, Gideon, excuse me, God spoke according to Gideon's calling. Gideon responded according to his insecurity. Now this is a normal pattern, but it's one we need to break. God speaks according to our calling. You are. We speak according to our insecurity. I feel or I am. God says, you are such and such, and you say, I'm no good. God says, I've called you to do this, and you say, but I'm not good enough. God said, I've called you to lay hands on that person, you say, but I'm not holy enough. When our identity comes from who we are in Christ, a security comes. And here's the beautiful thing: it comes wrapped in a genuine humility because you understand, I am, well, like Paul said, I am what I am by the grace of God. My if I boast, he said, I'm boasting in the Lord. By my God, I can run through a trooper, leap over a wall, but by myself, I'm nothing. And we understand that this is who I am without him, but I'm not without him. So let me tell you who I am now. And many believers, including you and including me, are living beneath our calling because we're still thinking beneath our identity. We don't step out because we don't see ourselves in our identity. We see like the old man and not like the new creation. So what brings the change? You got to be renewed in the spirit of your mind. You've got to start to think differently. Do you notice that Jesus was constantly talking about who he was, who he came from, and what he was called to do? There's no reference in the gospels to Jesus waking up and saying to the science, I'm just feeling a bit flat today. Just not really feeling it. Y'all pray for me. I'm just, I just, you know, just not didn't really have a great connection last night when I went up the mountain. I just, I just feel like the Lord is, God just is far from just in a valley right now. And and so he never talked that way. Was his life always easy? No. Did he experience grief? Yes. Did he go through hard times and rejection and persecution? Absolutely. He went through all of those things. But he was always talking about I am the bread of life. I am sent from God. I do the will of my Father. I know my Father's voice. I am the way, I'm the truth, I'm the life, I'm the resurrection. He that believes in me, though he dies, they'll never live forever. He was always talking about who he was, what he had, or what he was sent to do. Contrast that with you. Or me. Or me. What are we like? Not like that. Let's just, for the sake of time, let's just leave it. We are not like that. But we have the mind of Christ. Say, yeah, well, I just don't want to be arrogant. No. The Bible says, submit yourself to God. Submit yourself, humble yourself in the sight of the Lord. My issue isn't, am I appearing humble to you? My primary issue, as I am I appearing humble to the Lord. And Him saying this about me, and me saying, nah, it's this. Wait a minute. I humble myself in your sight. If God says this about me, I'll say it too. This is why I've never understood people, even when I was a child, people that get upset about the confession of the word or people confessing the word. And they give it rude names like name it, claim it, and blab it, grab it, to make the argument seem more powerful. Actually, the argument is flawed because there is nothing wrong with re-declaring what God has already declared. In fact, if God has said it, it is wrong for me to say anything else. The children of Israel stood shaking in front of Goliath because David was the only one willing to stand up and say, But I have a covenant. They all had the covenant, they all had the same covenant. David was the only one willing to stand up and say it. The people that do know their God, Daniel 11, verse 32 says, Will be strong and do exploits. We want to do exploits, but we want to stay weak. No, my friend, weak in the flesh, yes, but strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. There's a change has got to come to your thinking and my thinking. Otherwise, the Bible says we will always stay distant from the promises of God. We won't experience his good, perfect, and acceptable will, and we won't put on the new man, even though we've been made a new creation. Good preaching. Amen. Thank you. You will never save. Okay. Oh, that was tied to the last point. Did you notice that Jesus was constantly talking about who he was, who he came from, and what he was called to do? And I wrote this you will never save anything from anyone with a defeated mindset and a poor understanding of your godly identity. Jesus would not have saved anyone from anything had he wandered around talking about how he felt that day, how everyone was mean to him, and it's just not like it was in heaven. And no, that's you don't you don't hear that coming out of his mouth. And even some of the old hymns, when we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be. Yes, but the Bible says, Rejoice in the Lord always. And again I say rejoice. So the renewed mind begins to think differently, says things like, I am accepted in Christ, I am chosen, I belong to God. I don't need to strive for identity, I already have it in him. A renewed mind stops constantly asking, Am I enough? and instead begins resting in Christ is enough and I am in him. Point number one. Point number two, the renewed mind thinks from faith, not fear. One of the biggest differences between renewed thinking and worldly thinking is expectation. So an unrenewed mind expects failure, it expects disappointment, it expects rejection, and it expects limitation. Perhaps. In Numbers chapter 13, verse 30, Joshua and Caleb said, We are well able to overcome it. David, not in that particular situation, in his own circumstances, said this in Psalm 27, verse 13. I would have lost heart unless, everyone say, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord. What's that? That's a renewed mindset. I'm not saying there's not a mountain, I'm not denying there's not a problem. I'm not saying we're not going through the valley of the shadow of death, but I will fear no evil because you are with me. You're preparing a table before me. Goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and death is swallowed up in victory. The Bible says in Romans chapter 8, verse 28, and all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to his purpose. So faith is not pretending that difficulties don't exist, faith is believing that God is greater than the difficulty. A renewed mind is one that thinks in line with what your spirit believes. And here comes the clash many times. We have a belief system that says one thing, but we think differently. What you constantly expect reveals how you constantly think. What you constantly expect. Thinking about Christmas. We've got plenty of time. What is it, like seven months? Some person will know how many sleeps till Christmas. I don't start counting until July, but I do count early. It is the most wonderful time of the year, after all. Christmas. Man, turkey's gonna be expensive this year. Could you imagine how many if they're flying it over from anywhere, the price of oil these days? Man, I don't know if my kids are gonna have many presents. I better start scrimping and saving now because man, have you seen the price of everything? I mean, just the card, just the card is like six pounds before you post it. Three pounds to post it to your neighbor, oh but my gosh, the supply of my need. But he better. I'm telling you, that's crackers. Those for a quick pop. No, I'm not doing it. My last time my hat didn't even fit. And your expectations reveal your mindset or show you the settings of your mind. See, many believers pray for breakthrough while internally expecting defeat. And then they will look at someone with a renewed mind like you're the one that's cuckoo. But actually, it is cuckoo not to think in line with God's word. They say, Oh, you just gotta be real. Yeah, real carnal. I want the mind of Christ. I want to think like he thinks. I don't want to even the incredible things we learn about the woman with the issue of blood and how she pressed through the crowd and touched the thank the Lord for the woman with the issue of blood. But can I tell you something, my friends? We need to stop, church. We need to stop identifying with the woman with the issue of blood and start identifying with the one wearing the garment. I haven't been made in the image of the woman with the issue of blood. I'd be made in the image of the one that wore the garment whose people touched, people touched him and they were healed. That's who we're called to be like. Thank the Lord for the beggar that touched the Lord and made him clean. But we're called to be like the Lord that did the cleansing. In his name, I understand it's his mindset we take on, it's his nature that's been given ours, but we've been given it. What do you mean we can't kill the giant? I have a covenant. Do you get what I'm saying? So we pray for breakthrough while internally expecting defeat. This scenario, it's a heart of faith trying to work through an unrenewed mind. The renewed mind learns to think differently. God is faithful. God is working even when I can't see it. This situation is not bigger than his power. I will see the goodness of God in the land of the living. Number three the renewed mind is led by the Spirit. And fed by the word. Ooh, that's good. If you're a tweeter or an exercise, doesn't work the same as it, does it? Just go old school. If you're a tweeter, tweet that. A renewed mind is led by the spirit and fed by the word. See, the renewed mind doesn't happen through occasional inspiration, it's developed through continual exposure to truth. Do you all have one of these? You know what this is? Help me. What is it? It's a Bible. Do you have one? Basic instruction before leaving Earth. You need this. This is how this is your sword. I went to Poland the other day and I made a huge mistake. One that I said to Angela, I'd been there about 12 hours. I called her and said, if I ever have such a bad idea again, unleash the spirit of slap. Five-fold ministry laying on the hands without prayer and remind me. I've been preaching for 30 years. I have never not taken my Bible with me, my actual Bible. This time I thought, you know what? I've got my iPad, it's got like 72 translations, and I'll just take my mini Bible. So I couldn't bring myself not to bring it any Bible at all. I'm not that backslidden. But I I didn't bring this one. And I got to my hotel room. I've been in there about half an hour, and I wanted to write something down. And I mean, you you gotta be like the size of a smurf to write that little Bible, it's tiny. And so I'm going to preach and I have my iPad with me, and I felt like I was going onto the battlefield without my armor. And I said to Angela, I said, Never let me do that again. We need to be intimately acquainted. This is a brand new Bible, so don't do as I say, not as I do. But if your Bible is not falling apart, chances are your life is. And if your Bible is in tatters, your life will be strong and healthy. It needs to be in ruins so that because then you're building your life on the rock, and the storms will come, but you won't fall. A renewed mind doesn't happen through occasional inspiration, continual exposure to the truth and the word. And can I just put on my pastor hat for a minute? You can't see it, but I'm now wearing it. Inspirational quotes, memes, and motivational sayings on social media inspire, but they don't transform. The Bible doesn't say be inspired by a clever saying or a little ism. Be transformed by the word of God. And what social media is like going to Miller and Carter for a nice steak and being given a KFC plastic spork. Is that what they call those things? Spork? That's like a spoon and a fork combined. You never heard of a spork? It's it's it's those useless little things, largely a spoon with a few little prongs that snap just when you get going. On a little plastic knife, that is like social media. God's word is like it's a two-edged sword. It divides the soul and the spirit, it cuts through demons and disease and fear and anxiety and lack, like a hot knife through warm butter. The social media is like the mind-renewing equivalent of a sugar high. It's usually followed by a big crash after a short-term buzz. You need to go old school, pull out your Bible and read it quite a lot. You need a good daily mind washing in the promises of God, specifically concerning the issues you're currently thinking about. In fact, what you are currently thinking about is a good guidepost as to what part of this book you should study. This is a big book. And and kind of flicking through it and then putting your finger in was great for the first couple of days when you first got saved. But church, we need to grow beyond the the flick through and you know, pin the tail on the donkey, pin the verse on my day kind of Christianity to say, what am I currently thinking about? What am I dealing with? What issues am I facing? What are my present anxieties? I can guarantee you there are promises that deal with exactly what you're going through. Find those, meditate on those until you've changed the default setting of your thinking to where you're not only believing for victory, but you're thinking about victory. You not only have a belief system that says you're a conqueror, but you see yourself conquering. This is putting off the old man and putting on the new man. The Bible says it's by the promises of God that we obtain the blessings of God. Amen. So what are you thinking about? Are you thinking about sin all the time? Find the verses that talk about worshiping the Lord and the beauty of holiness. If you're constantly thinking about guilt, find the verses that talk about how you've been made the righteousness of God in Christ. Financial worry, find the verses about Jehovah Jirah. Health or sickness, find the verses about Jehovah Rapha. If you're afraid of death, find the verses that talk about God's love for you because perfect love casts out the fear, even the fear of death. Let's go to this one. If you're worried about getting dementia, find the verses that talk about the fact that God has given you a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Can I be honest about what's going on right now? Pastoral hat back on. Is this okay? Y'all still okay? I know it's hot, but you glad you came? Good, me too. We have a whole generation of people who are being wiped out by a disease they didn't see coming. Let me say it again. We have a whole generation. My parents' generation. My father passed away of dementia. Angela's mom is battling right now. Thankfully, my mom just heard AD the other day. She is as sharp as a tack. Don't expect her to forget anything. That woman is remarkable. But we have a whole generation of people who are being wiped out by a disease they didn't see coming. We see it coming. You and I. We now we see it coming. See, when they first began to have memory issues, they joked about it. We joked about it. We thought it was funny. Maybe not funny, ha ha, but because we didn't know what it was. We had no idea. Now we know better. They are being destroyed through a lack of knowledge. Let's make sure that we know the truth, and the truth will set us free. Amen. It's a very real problem in the world today. But God is Jehovah Rapha, even of the brain. And this is a disease of the brain. It's not mental health like anxiety or depression. There's verses for that too. Dementia is an atrophying of the brain. The brain cells begin to die. But Jesus is the life giver, he's the healer, he's Jehovah Rapha. He's the one that brought the dead back to life. That includes dementia. So where we sit right now, you and I, who are perhaps the generation watching what's happening to our parents and our grandparents, we need to now be incredibly careful that we don't have a belief system that Jesus is our healer for everything except dementia. That one you just have to know. Hang on a minute. We need to make sure that our expectation of old age is not an expectation of forgetfulness and confusion, but an expectation of I still have the mind of Christ. I'm gonna be like Moses. He went to heaven old, and his eyes were fine, and his ears were fine, his senses hasn't abated, he wasn't forgetting. That's how I'm gonna go. That's how you're gonna go because we know the truth. So sometimes things come in, that the enemy comes in like a thief in the night. We did not see this coming. 30 years ago, dementia or Alzheimer's was very rare and very unknown. It's taken over now. So we need to take that ground back. And it's not that Jesus needs to go back to the cross or that there was a stripe that he didn't bear. The issue isn't spiritual, the issue is we need to change the way we think. Provided Joshua teaches us you meditate on the word day and night, then we'll be successful, then we'll be prosperous, we'll make our way successful. Um let me close with this. A renewed mind is built intentionally through meditation on the scripture, through praise. That's the chief expression of your faith is praise. We talked about last week. Look at the person beside you, say, I came to praise. Through gratitude, through guarding what enters your mind, through speaking truth consistently, and through spending time in your presence. David said, His delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night. Years ago, I had a dream in which I saw several words highlighted in Joshua 1, verse 8. I'm not, I'm not an often dreamer, I'm too busy sleeping, but sometimes I dream. And it's like I woke up and I saw Joshua 1 verse 8, and I saw a couple of sections highlighted. And and I heard this, I saw this. What you meditate on, and I saw next bit, you will do. What you meditate on, you will do. And then I heard the words, what you dwell on, you'll dwell in. You've all heard me talk about this before if you've been a gateway any length of time. If I meditate on the love of God, I'll dwell in the love of God. If I dwell on the miracles of Jesus, I'll dwell in the miracles of Jesus. If I dwell on the promises of God, I'll dwell in the promises of God. If I dwell on offense, I'll live in offense. If I dwell on sexual promiscuity, I'll live in sexual promiscuity. If I dwell on fear, I'll live in fear. You cannot find feed your mind fear all week and expect faith to dominate your life. That's another good one. You cannot feed your mind fear all week. I'm allowed to enjoy my own preaching. I'm just saying, it's like making dinner. You're allowed to enjoy your own dinner. Sometimes you feed yourself. You're gonna be funny. You can't, John, you cannot feed your mind fear all week and expect faith to dominate your life. Amen. Good preaching. So we need to ask ourselves honestly: where does my thinking still not reflect who I am in Christ? Where am I still thinking from insecurity, from fear, or from defeat? Because I can tell you now, God wants to renew that area. So let me close. Some of you are in a rebuilding season where God is not only removing lies from your life, he's establishing a completely new way of thinking within you. And as your thinking changes, your confidence will change, your peace will change, your reactions will change, your expectations will change, your life will change, the Bible says. And today we've seen that a renewed mind is not built through occasional emotional moments or a Facebook meme, it's built through intentional daily alignment with truth. I cast down every imagination, every thought that doesn't line up with Christ, and I bring it into obedience with God. And over time, renewed thinking becomes stops becoming something you visit occasionally and becomes your normal way of thinking. You are renewed in the spirit of your mind, and the Bible says, when you renew the spirit of your mind, you're you will change your life, you will transform your life. Everyone say, I'm changing my mind. Let's stand up and say this together. Come on, we gotta go out of here with a shout. Are you ready? Everyone say this with me. Say, I am a new creation in Christ. That was moderately convincing. I give you a five or a six. Church, come on, let's get this. I am a new creation in Christ. What, even you? No, don't you remember what you did last week? You you're not. No, come on. I am a new creation in Christ. My mind is being renewed. I reject insecurity, I reject fear, I think from identity. My identity is in Christ. I think from faith. I think in alignment with heaven. See, my friend, you cannot have a transformed life with an unchanged mind. Through this series, we're we're seeing why, right? We get it. And can you see why some people are just different than you and just different than me? They think differently. But everyone say it again. I'm changing my mind. When your thinking aligns with heaven, your life will begin to reflect it big time. Come on, let's give the Lord praise because all of this is because of Jesus. It's all but for his cross, but for his grace, we'd be up the creek without a paddle. But he came and he rescued us and he lifted us. Jesus, thank you that I don't have to be conformed to the pattern of the world. I don't have to be like everyone else. I get to be like you, Jesus. You recreated me in your image. You gave me your mind. You put your robe of righteousness on me. You made me your child. You seated me next to you. You prepared a home in heaven with you for me. And Jesus, help me to live everything you've made available to me in Jesus' name. Can we say it one more time? Say, I am a new creation in Christ. My mind is being renewed. I reject insecurity. I reject fear. I reject guilt. I reject shame. I reject condemnation. I reject weakness. I don't want pity. I don't need you to feel sorry for me. I'm not wandering around, licking my wounds. I don't have a violin to play. I have been made a child of God. I was a sinner. Now I'm saved by grace. I once was lost, but I am very found. I was dead, but now I'm alive. I think from identity, I think from faith. I think in alignment from heaven. So Satan, bite the dust. In Jesus' name. Come on, one more shout of praise. Hallelujah! In Jesus' name, who the sun sets free is free indeed. Awesome! Well, I think we did all right for a bank holiday.
